Farmers Market

Market Updates:

The Oxnard Farmers Market will remain open as an option for local agricultural product and prepackaged food at this time. The market will also discontinue any non-essential programming such as entertainment, seating and community activities.

The market’s continuation of service will also minimize economic impacts to participating small Farmers, so they remain able to serve the market community in the months and years to come.

All vendors and customers are requested to avoid the market for non-essential visits, if ill, and if concerned of potential COVID-19 transmission. Market Staff has arranged additional options for hand washing in addition to a hand sanitizing station at our booth that are available on site. Any updates to market programming will be provided on both the Oxnard Farmers Market social media and website.


In the spring of 2021, our market launched a new program called “Sweets This Week.”
It is specifically designed to help engage and promote licensed home-based / Cottage Food Operators at our market.

We are offering flexibility to attend just once a month (or more or less often) in rotation for vendors to showcase and sell their product at our Thursday market at Plaza Park from 9:00 – 1:30. It is designed to have the opportunity for customers to see and buy your product in person rather than just online.

We are offering a discounted fee of 12% of sales plus a $2.00 required State fee for each week in attendance. Vendors must provide their own linen and banner, and we can provide a 10’ x10’ space on the lawn area of our market with a tent, table, and chair(s).

In addition to the meeting County Environmental Health requirements, we need to require that each vendor also have a City of Oxnard Business Tax Certificate (basically a City Business License). We have discovered that this is often a financial hurdle for many small home-based businesses. We are trying to help offset the start up costs for many to attend this level of entrepreneurial and creative investment by offering the mobile vendor set up of a tent, table(s) and chairs (which can easily cost $300 or more) as well as flexibility in attendance requirements and a modest space fee which covers our cost of running the market and promoting its vendors through our social media.

Home-based vendors now have so many incentives to run a business with an online presence and flexible County food regulations, but getting your product directly in front of consumers can be a challenge. We see this as a win-win to draw more customers to our market and help small scale creative’s establish their home-based business.

Our Market is year-round (closed on major holidays) and gets an average of 400 customers per week with peak attendance in the warmer summer months with up to 700 customers. The cumulative annual sales of our market are over $350,000 with weekly sales in about the $7,000 average daily range. Individual vendor sales can range from as low as $80 to $1,200 depending on the product and time of year.

Prepared and packaged food is a strong component of our market since our operating hours are over lunchtime. We currently have four hot prepared food vendors and are about to add a fifth and possibly a sixth. We get a good number of customers from downtown businesses and are looking to grow that customer base with more consumers from Oxnard and Port Hueneme.

Our Certified Farmers Market is managed by the Oxnard Downtowners Foundation,  which also produces the First Thursdays Food Trucks, Oxnard Salsa Festival, the Oxnard Christmas Parade and other downtown community events.
